November 2010 Sno Traveler

With Thanksgiving upon us, we begin the snowmobilers ritual of watching the skies and temps. Neither of which have been in our favor as of yet; however it has given the WSC time to work on some large trail projects.

We have re-decked several bridges, excavated several wet and rough areas of trail, brushed out many areas and our biggest project is to move one of our most popular and heavily used trail to higher ground due to a persistent influx of beavers and overall  very wet conditions. This is a major project which involves cutting a new trail, excavating, rock removal and laying in the new route. All of which needs to be done by the time the ground freezes, which thankfully we guess- it hasn’t. A big thanks to Tom, Jay and Larry for slogging thru the mud w/their GPS to locate and map out the new route, Freddie Jr. for his expertise in operating the excavator, the local forester who dropped everything to cut the trees, and most of all, our landowners who are allowing all this to happen! Thanks also to the small but mighty group of WSC clan that has given their time to go out and work on this project.

Groomers are ready to go. We are having our safety class in early December. Landowner permission slips have come in nicely, and basically..we are ramped up and raring to go!

Now its all up to you; mother nature. Bring it on!

Happy Thanksgiving to all - hopefully by next article we can report on some fine early season riding here in the beautiful lakes region. Come see what the WSC is all about – we meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Wind Drifter Resort at 7pm.
